Napa Valley Zinfandel

Wine Description

Discount Wine of the Week

I’m sorry but – it’s time to start thinking about holiday gift giving.  Considering that you’re reading this, you are undoubtedly planning on giving wine to some of the people on your list. For those friends of yours who love Zinfandel, why not give them a wine you can’t find at your local store, i.e., a slightly culty producer like Tofanelli?

This week, Indie Winemakers is offering hand-crafted artisan Zinfandel from Napa Valley produced by Tofanelli Family Vineyards. This is the same fruit used by Orin-Swift's the 'Prisoner', which was ranked #17 of the top 100 wines in 2007 by Wine Spectator!  Deal Alert: No shipping fees and no tax outside of California means an additional savings of over $30 for most authorized ship-to states.

The Zinfandel is from the same old vine (planted in 1929) vineyard managed by the Tofanelli's for 3 generations. Indie Winemakers has obtained a very small allocation for this featured wine. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did:

  • 1 Bottle of 2008 Estate Zinfandel $29 plus shipping - retail price is $33
  • 1 Bottle shipping fee is $27, FREE SHIPPING for 2 Bottles or more to all authorized ship-to states

Tax is applied to orders shipping to California only. Please note that there are state laws prohibiting us from shipping wine to the following states: Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Utah & West Virginia. If we receive an order going to these states, it will not be processed and you will be issued full credit.

About the Vineyard

Tofanelli Vineyards has been family owned and farmed since 1929. Given the reputation of the vines and the limited production of the winery, Tofanelli vineyards sells some fruit to other wineries such as Turley, Spottswoode, Schrader, Orin-Swift (a.k.a. the 'Prisoner') Cellars, and Duckhorn.

Consisting mostly of Bale Series, gravelly loam, it drains well and doesn't retain nutrients. The effect is natural devigoration that results in smaller, more concentrated clusters of fruit. Wines produced from this site are organically grown and dry farmed. Rootstock includes St. George, 1103 Paulsen and 110 Rupestrus.

Tasting Notes

Indie Winemakers' Tasting Notes

Our mission is to provide unbiased opinions of the wine being offered. These notes come from up to 10 guests who tasted this wine in a blind tasting format (wine is concealed so their identity is unknown). Why this format? Tasting blind completely throws out any hype associated with a certain winery, style, price point, etc; it forces the taster to accept what is in the glass without any predetermined notions. Our guests utilize Robert Parker's Glossary of Wine Terms for their comments for consistency purposes. In addition, we utilize the wine aroma wheel to enhance one’s ability to describe the complexity of wine flavor. Notes are posted on this wine during the tasting to ensure they accurately reflect the impressions.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes - 08 Zinfandel

The 2008 Tofanelli Zinfandel is absolutely classic. The aromatics of this Zin burst forward, with concentrated fresh boysenberry juice and hints of raspberry sorbet. Sweet pipe tobacco and vanilla scents add complexity. Mouth-coating dark fruits kick in, laced with allspice, clove and a dash of white pepper. On entry the wine is silky and juicy, with firm tannins supporting snappy Zin fruit expression. Ultra long finish. Drink now and through 2021.
